VISIT OLYMPIA BY BUS / TRAIN. (updated February 3, 2011).

There are NO MORE TRAINS operating from Athens to Pyrgos or v.v.
Only the local train from the port of Katakolon-Pyrgos-Olympia, for the cruiseships' passengers is running.
Websites and blogs suggesting the trip by train are outdated and misleading.
You may call the Greek Railways at: (++Greece)210 5298829 and reconfirm it.

People leave from Olympia after they visit the archaeological museum and the site, and they leave with the feeling that they missed something. In most of the buildings only the foundations have survived, and if you don't have a presentation of the ancient site, of how the building looked like, what was the purpose of the building and what was in it, then you will also feel the same way. There are many stories and myths about the history and purpose of the Pan-hellenic Games (the Games at Olympia was just one of the four Games).
Olympia has a lot more to show to you.
We want to see Olympia included in everybody's itinerary, and if you feel that you know the sanctuary and its purpose well enough, then we suggest that at least, you
avoid frustration and stress, and have your transportation booked and secured. We take care of you and get your tickets in advance.Transport is a challenge in Greece. Organising the trip to Olympia is not as easy as you think. Your time in Olympia is limited and you must plan ahead what to do, in order to see as much as possible.
We know the express schedules, and the non-stop ones.

We organise the bus trip from Athens to Olympia including pick up/drop off service.
The price is on request from 01 Feb. 2011, and includes:
-
the transfer from your hotel in Athens to the KTEL bus terminal in Athens,
- the bus ticket from Athens to Pyrgos with return to Athens, (you get the Pyrgos-Olympia-Pyrgos, in Pyrgos),
- the transfer from the terminal in Athens to your hotel in Athens, and
-
A presentation with photos and plans of the ancient site, pointing out in a simple way the history and use of every structure. It is the result of 6 years hard work, study and experience that will help you understand the layout of the site. An indispensable help, as in many buildings only the foundations survive today. Vandals, earthquakes and river floods have hardly left anything standing.

F.y.i. the entrance to the museum and the site at Olympia cost: 09.00 euros per adult or 05.00 euros for students. The under 18 years old are F.O.C.

However, if you have an extra day to spare, the overnight trip to Olympia is recommended. We can arrange your stay at Olympia, in a budget hotel or a 4 star hotel with a swimming pool. (Worth the difference in price, especially during summer months).
